Job Description
 
The Sr. Linux & Unix Systems Engineer role will have primary responsibilities of complete administration and maintenance for all *nix (Linux & Unix) systems located at our data centres and other several smaller sites.
 
In addition will be engaged in implementing enterprise system/application on UNIX and Virtual platforms.
You will participate, in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure systems provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
 
Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Work in collaboration with other members of the Enterprise Computing Team on new systems setup, performance management, routine maintenance, capacity planning, break/fix, backups and data centre operations.
 
You will be an escalation point for L2 engineers, also be responsible for planning Trainings & Projects for all *nix systems. Must be available 24/7 for on-call for “problem resolution”.
 
 
Responsibilities
• Active participation and assist L2 engineers to perform root cause analysis for complex incidents and problems
• Prevent recurrence of issues by analysing tickets, understand patterns and recommend remedial actions based on global impact of the problem
• Help identify risk resolutions and improvement opportunities and track them to closure through Service Improvement Plans
• Review infrastructure for Single Points of Failure (SPOF's) and escalate to correct teams and look for capacity related incidents and bring focus to senior management
• Collaborate with infrastructure and application owners and ensure that the end to end technology solutions are met as per business requirements
• Promote adoption of technical / architecture standards to ensure consistency and efficiency across the organization
• Will be accountable for vetting the correctness of the build architecture solution of new projects
• Manage server infrastructure Rack / Chassis / Blade server, Responsible to ensue healthy Server infrastructure.
• Accountable for technical requirements of projects lies by liaising with the sector/platform teams
• Establish risk identification & mitigation planning of end to end technology solutions
• Responsible for self-development by attaining knowledge on cloud computing and ITIL processes (important from a future perspective)
• Mentor and provide training to junior members of the team and effectively & swiftly on-board them
L2 - Senior Technical Support  Engineer – Linux & Unix Location: - Bangalore, India
 
 
Requirement & Skills (Areas of Expertise)
• Overall 6 Years' experience with minimum 3 years of proven record as a senior *nix engineer a. 3+ years of experience in RedHat Enterprise and CentOS 5.x, 6.x & 7.x b. 3+ years of experience in Sun Solaris 8, 9, 10
• Functions well in managing and maintaining a large-scale, complex, cross-functional / platform server environments, especially those in multiple data centres.
• Understanding of High Availability architecture (Load Balancing, Distribution, Failover, Replication)
• Strong administration of Unix core services and applications such as NFS, LVM, DNS, DHCP, Samba, SendMail, IPtables, vsFTPD, Apache, NTP, SSL/TLS, Linux kernel, LDAP, SSH. a. Candidate is not expected to know about all these servers or technologies beforehand. Knowledge of some of these existing technologies or alternatives, such as Nginx instead of apache, along with quick learning ability is expected.
• Good programming skills with the ability to write at least 1 of the following scripting languages Perl, Python or Shell scripts
• Experienced in middleware and web services such as Pentaho, Jscape, Boomi, and JBoss, WildFly, TomCat etc.
• 2-3 years of working experience in automation tools like Ansible, Puppet and exposure to Chef
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP and networking - ability to use and understand output of tcpdump/snoop technology
• Good knowledge of RDBMS like Oracle and MySQL, other databases like MongoDB, Percona XtraDB, will be an added advantage
• Ability to understand and review PHP and Java based applications
• Working knowledge on recognized ITSM tool (ServicewNOW) or any other ticketing tools
• Certifications in Sun Solaris and/or RedHat is a must
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
