Based in Alshaya’s head office in Kuwait, the Head of Category & Marketing Communications will be responsible for the development and implementation of marketing strategies for the Starbucks brand across the MENA region. This position would report into the Vice President – Starbucks and will be pivotal in understanding consumer segments, identifying emerging trends and making Starbucks the destination for innovative products in the broader retail space.

The role

  • Leading the development and implementation of Starbucks digital platforms across the MENA region
  • Work very closely with the host brand to deliver best in class solutions to implement the Starbucks Rewards program and associated digital platforms
  • Spearheading the category management function to deliver strong future range of beverages, merchandise and retail lobby products
  • Responsible to oversee all brand marketing communication strategies
  • Liaising with Starbucks EMEA to ensure delivery of right products, relevant to the region whilst encouraging innovation and creativity from around the world of Starbucks
  • Leverage the food range and internal manufacturing capabilities to expand Starbucks offerings
  • Lead the brand marketing team to rollout marketing activities to support all 10 operating markets
  • Implement plans to deliver long term company financial and business objectives including annual operating plan& longer term Strategic Plan
  • Contributes to the Starbucks success by developing category/brand strategies in conjunction with the Starbucks Host Brand team


The requirements

  • 10-15 years of product and category management experience in the retail/ FMCG sectors, ideally 5 years of which is in a senior leadership role
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing or business
  • Demonstrate excellent digital skills combined with the knowledge of latest marketing techniques, with experience of building marketing campaigns with both traditional and digital elements.
  • Must have an in-depth category specific, retail, consumer and shopper expertise 
  • Good analytic acumen with a knowledge on shopper insights, category management & marketing
  • Ability to leverage all available data and related insights to identify category gaps and opportunities
  • An understanding of technologies supporting impactful digital marketing and social media efforts
  • Excellent influencing skills, particularly able to work in a matrix structure
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and presentation experience to senior executives
